The Sacraments are outward signs of inward grace. They are our reception of God’s grace and they are our surest ways of knowing Christ. In the liturgy of the Church, it is principally his own Paschal mystery that Christ signifies and makes present.
The Sacraments of Initiation begin with Baptism. Confirmation activates the grace of baptism. And initiation is completed through the regular celebration of the Eucharist. Adults enter the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation celebrated all together in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults.
The Sacraments of Healing include Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Penance (sometimes also called the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession). These healing sacraments bring forgiveness, strength, and the way to return to the Eucharistic celebration.
The Sacraments of Vocation include Holy Orders and Matrimony. Deacons, priests, and bishops find abiding grace in the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Marriage is an outward sign of the enduring, undying love of God for His people.
